PROFILE

TERESA BARROZO is a Filipino composer. Her compositions range from solo, chamber ensemble, orchestral, vocal and electroacoustic. Her works have been performed in the Philippines and in the Asian Composers League Music Festivals in Japan and Thailand. In 2007, she was one of the featured Filipino composers in the Asia-Pacific Weeks 2007 in Berlin, Germany. Her choral works have been performed by the University of the Philippines Concert Chorus (UPCC) in various international choral festivals.

Barrozo also works as a composer, sound designer and arranger for film, theater, dance.

Her theater works include music and sound design for Sipat Lawin Ensemble’s “Haring Tubul”, Dulaang Sipat Lawin’s “Paglipas ng Limang Taon”, PETA’s docu-musical “Doon Po Sa Amin”, and arrangements for Ateneo Entablado’s musical “Sandaang Panaginip”. 

She recently collaborated with dance-artist Myra Beltran in ”Itim Asu 1719-2009” and theater director and choreographer Tess Jamias for Ballet Philippines’ “Kabaret”. 

Barrozo has worked with multi-awarded independent filmmakers Adolf Alix, Sherad Anthony Sanchez, John Torres, Raya Martin and 62nd Cannes Film Festival Palm D’or Best Director Brillante Mendoza. Her works for film have been featured in major international film festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Pusan, Venice and Rotterdam to name a few. Her work for the film “Kinatay” (Official selection, 62nd Cannes Film Festival; dir. by Brillante Mendoza) won Best Original Soundtrack at the 42nd Sitges International Film Festival in Spain. Barrozo is a recipient of the 2010 Ani ng Dangal Award from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). 

Teresa currently provides music & sound design for the Philippines’ premier improv comedy group, SPIT (Silly People’s Improv Theater). She is also a member of the Sipat Lawin Ensemble, a Manila-based edge work, site-specific theater company geared towards creating relevant new works staged in alternative performance spaces.
